I agree. I have a 1986 Vanagon GL and I only have the manual switch for the day time running lights. There was no issue with getting the vehicle safetied for use in Ontario. I can see an advantage of hooking them up to come on and turn off automatically, as I sometimes forget to turn them off. I just make it a habit to look at the lights when I stop and turn off the Vanagon.
