Hi Robert. I don't know when daylight running lights came into effect but I'm pretty sure we are grandfathered. I've never had an issue with my 85 and that's driving coast to coast. Granted I usually turn the lights on for highway driving.

My headlights turn off when the motor stops. Parking lights stay on. Is that not the way us models work? I've left my lights on overnight with no issue. I think it was overnight??
