Lots of opinions here. If the trans is old and worn, changing the fluid can be the final straw. Others will say it's better to change the fluid no matter what.

I like to pull the pan or drain plug and replace what comes out. This is less of a shock on the system than flushing and replacing everything. If your trans is in good shape you may want to do this every 30-60k. I try to do it every 30 in all my cars with auto trans. Also depends on usage. If you are towing or pushing a heavy westy around in desert heat, you may want to do your interval sooner.
