The AFM *is* a sensor that feeds input to the ECU. there are no sensor inputs to the AFM.

Temp Sensor II is the common term for the temp sensor that feeds engine coolant temp to the ecu.

There is a temp senor in the AFM too, built in. And you can check its resistance ...though I seldom ever do and have not seen a bad one. How to is in the Bentley manual.

swapping the AFM is a no brainer. Takes one screw driver. if it's an 86 or later ....you'd like to see an adapter harness between AFM and ecu wiring harness, about 6 inches long. Not all 2.1 wbxr vans have one...but many do. It's to address a glitch in the elctronics there....google Vanagon Syndrome .
