Hi Paul,

You do not need the rattle-gun - they're a blunt tool which do not offer reliable torque.

Don't believe me? Would you use a rattle-gun to tighten your spark plugs to the correct torque?

See - you knew it all along really.

When a torque as high as 250ft/lb is specified, it's of vital importance that it's done with tenderness. A lot of torque doesn't translate as 'hit it really hard'. Yes, it's hard to get there, but you need to get there with a smooth action and precision.

Cheap ways of getting there include: - borrowing one/renting one from a local mechanic/engineering shop - buying one from a big-arse store, using it and returning it :) - phoning a friend

Regards,

-Dan

I know the bolt is supposed to be torqued to > 258 ft/lbs but I'm hoping close counts. What would you do if you were in my shoes? Get the manual wrench or the air impact wrench? I already have a torque wrench that goes up to 100 ft/lbs. > > Thanx for your input, I'm trying to spend my hard earned $$ wisely.
