Getting power off instantly is key, though. Modern circuit boards may have extremely fine circuitry with no copper to spare to electrolysis.

Some years ago I was present when half an ounce or so of water was spilled into the keyboard of a Thinkpad T42 laptop. I had the main battery out in seconds, and had it disassembled to where the CMOS backup battery could be unplugged in maybe three minutes. Unfortunately ALL the traces on the circuit board within an inch or so of the CMOS battery terminals had simply vanished by then. There were dozens of them, I didn't even consider trying to repair them. They were microscopically small. I was too shattered to photograph it.
