I just realized that I fixed a hose in my inline VW powered van almost 4yrs ago, using that silicone tape called various names... This is a strange little hose that is larger on one end and has an S-bend, coming right off the head and leading to the heater circuit, I think... Soon after my roadside repair I got another hose and I carry that around with me in my Spares Kit, but given how inferior some things are being made now, I decided..."heck, let's just see how long this tape will last rather than putting on a "new" hose of questionable origin... I think I've been about 60k miles on the rescue tape hose, through Death Valley in summer, over the High Sierras numerous times, hauled lots of stuff around, etc. Whenever I am under there, I gaze at the repair and it still looks perfectly good...though quite grimey now....One day it may let loose and I'll have to install the spare, perhaps...but in the mean time...that tape seems to be a pretty good product.. |
