Same thing happened to me with an exhaust system from a different vendor.  Did not look quite lined up and leaked when I fired it up, so relied on the extra gaskets and spray copper stuff to seal it up.  I would have much rather had a set that lined up perfectly but needed the van ready for an upcoming vacation already planned.  Sometimes you just have to make do.   Stephen ________________________________ From: David Beierl <dbeierl@ATTGLOBAL.NET> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Wednesday, July 24, 2013 11:52 AM Subject: Re: exhaust leak, header tubes to collector on 2.1 engine At 11:26 AM 7/24/2013, OlRivrRat wrote: >        Why didn't you return them? By the time you get underneath and are trying to fit them up you tend to have an awful lot invested in the status quo...my experience anyway. I got some 1.9l exhaust stuff from Bus Depot many years ago that needed surgery.  Come to think of it I rather believe it was Dansk.  It was a rush order, I was headed to Nova Scotia the next day, and I spent the night doing whatever it was.  I wasn't extra happy, and after the trip I asked to swap them for proper ones.  Ron wasn't particularly receptive, and I understood -- he couldn't really give them back to Dansk after I'd hacked on them.  In a better world etc, but this is the world we have.  It certainly wouldn't have made sense to blow the trip for this. Perhaps this is how we absorb some of the life-pain of people who have to spend their lives welding flanges on the ends of odd-looking bent tubes times infinity. Yours, David
