I don't know if this is a really good solution - but given the location of the main battery in a wbx vanagon it does provide a bit of protection - its a neg. disconnect switch.

Further, I've helped a friend install a marine battery disconnect switch on the positive side. There we drilled through the wall of the battery box (wall on the "passageway")  so that a key can be inserted into the switch to turn it on/off.
