Except for color the temp 2 sensor connector is the same as the injectors and lots of other stuff in fuel injection systems. You can even find pigtails in the Help and Cal-term collections in the FLAPS! Common on may GM systems also. I like the connectors with the raised release clip so they can be disconnected easily when needed. Use good sealed butt splices to join the wires.

Engine cold, you will loose very little coolant swapping the temp II sensor. Good to have a catch pan handy though. One might use the O-ring over again but that's a cheap part and wise to replace with the new sensor. Good to have several new ones on hand too IMO.

Sometimes the wires to the temp II connector can be old and brittle so repairing those can make the job longer. If the connector is old and brittle, I gather that's something that can be found in the bone yard on other similar vintage VW's.
