I don't have an opinion on your filter as such, only on the idea that
the system flows would be comparable between a recirculating and a
nonrecirculating fuel system.

Maybe you're thinking of another vehicle?  You shouldn't be able to
blow air through that pump in either direction, it's a roller pump
meant for pumping low-viscosity fluids and maintaining system
pressure while not operating.  I've got a seized one  I inherited
kicking about.  I'll open it up and see if it's not rusted too badly
to show the construction.
