Now those images of the commutator wear are very interesting. The one I just took apart is also worn very deeply without a lot of brush wear. I thought I'd measure it.

Very Interesting Indeed. What I have only looks like a seized pump. What I have is a totally irredeemably worn out pump that happens also to be seized.

The depth of the wear gully in the commutator was about .035 inches. There was maybe a bare .005 inches to go before you simply ran out of copper. That is an ex-parrot I mean pump, and so is the one at Pelican Parts, and I bet so are a lot of the ones we're driving around on.

Cheerful thought. Too bad I haven't a clue of this one's history, and no comparison with the one I took apart years ago where I did know the history.
