Ken, on your fan resistor video you say that the only lead you have to worry about matching when installing the plug is the one at the far end, which would be the mid-element tap. According to the numbers Mark has provided this is not the case, as the two sides actually have a resistance ratio of 3:1 and would provide noticeably different results if connected backwards. Can you revisit that issue?

Incidentally a handy way of checking low resistances like this would be to connect the resistor to an AA/C/D cell or to 12 volts, in either case using an incandescent taillight lamp in series as a current limiter. If you want an actual value in ohms you'd also put an ammeter in series but for comparative measurements you don't need it. Either way, use your digital voltmeter to show voltage dropped across each resistor segment. The resistance will be in proportion to the voltage found.

A regular five-watt taillight lamp (not stoplight) has a resistance cold of around three ohms, so that will cut the current down to something an AA cell can handle easily.
