Well, welcome to the club! The heat/ventilation controls are obtuse, but Go Westy has a good description: http://www.gowesty.com/library_article.php?id=311. Searching the archives can answer a lot of questions too: http://gerry.vanagon.com/cgi-bin/wa.exe?S1=vanagon

I recommend you read the entire Go Westy tech library on Vanagons, and get a copy of the Bentley factory manual--it's required for ownership, and you will build knowledge quickly.

Have fun!

I recently purchased a 1984 Vanagon and have numerous questions but most pressing is knowing what fuses go with what as I do not have an owners manual nor a fuse cover which I expect would explain the fuses.  There are 12 fuses and then 2 and 2 just to the left of the steering wheel?  Second, is how to operate the rear wiper?

By the way, just drove it from Nanaimo BC to eastern Ontario with no issues except I added a couple quarts of 20W50 during the journey.  Mind you, I don't have heat or certain on how to operate the toggles for air movement and defrost ops but adventure continues. LOL Dan-O
