The bracket pictures in the ETKA are incorrect. The muffler should sit on top and the strap just holds it down. To do it the other way you need to switch the bracket sides and when the strap breaks you get to replace the other pipes that crack or maybe even pay for some front end damage of the car that runs your muffler over.

Hmm. Mine were installed like a U to cradle the muffler. Never occurred to me that they might fit upside down to allow the retaining straps to come loose and let the muffler drop. Be neat if that were the case, but it might present its own set of issues.

Just made a discovery.
In looking at the ETKA-7 parts blow-up - SG-51, illustration 35-08 -
item 18 - it appears as if my muffler brackets have sometime in the
past been installed upside down. From the picture - if the brackets are
installed as shown - removal of the retaining strap should allow the
muffler to simply drop straight down with no worries. But my brackets
are installed with the curve on the bottom - not the top.
I like things right - so I guess I will remove both and re-install.
Thanks,
John in hot and humid ol' Alabama!
