That really doesn't give anyone a lot to work with long distance. Whenever
asking for help or getting parts include Year, make, model, and if not the
original engine what is there. Also transmission type can be helpful.

Since it re-starts you could be looking at a fuel starvation problem or the
more common O2 sensor issue. Especially 86 and later 2.1L. Dying every 30
seconds could also be something real simple like the boot fell off of the
air flow meter-air filter assembly.

What year Vanagon?

Does stall happen only when driving or does it also happen if you leave it
idling?

Does engine stop abruptly or cut in/out (sputter) then stop?
