Guess what! - it still ain't done and it's Tuesday night!!

I was totally unable to get the right bracket bolted back in place. Spent a lot of time and effort, sweating profusely and muttering under the breath profusely. Couldn't do it. It's not like I have no mechanical skills - but I just couldn't get in there with my hands(fairly big) and the wrench's to get the job done. Whipped my butt in this heat.

So what to do. Bling - idea!! Remove the J-pipe, slide the muffler to the left, tighten the right hand bracket bolts, slide the muffler back over both brackets, install J-pipe - DONE!

Wrong!!! Wrong!!! Wrong!!!

The bolts to the manifold are like welded - so badly rusted. Couldn't budge them. Nest step - cut the bloody bolts, put in new ones on re-assembly!

Ran out of time - had to put off until Tomorrow.

Join me tomorrow in the on-going saga of the muffler change on Ol' Red - my 1988 GL Vanagon!

John
