One other related aspect of this install, is where I'll run the cable from panel to controller. I'm using this:

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/1030185.jpg as a template. The holes in the poptop appear to be sized for the OD of the cable itself, not the MC4, so had to wonder if that person disconnected the cables from the junction and ran them back up etc.

The cable attached to the panel is more flexible than the supplied flat #10/2 cable. ('twas a kit) OTOH, I don't think there's any great danger that repeated up/down of poptop will cause the wire strands in the flat cable to fail any time soon.
