Someone talk me down from the ledge here. I've replaced the brake lines, including the T fitting at the rear of the bus. New lines, new T, new nuts. All of the new joints hold pressure fine except for the joint where the line from the front of the bus runs into the rear T fitting, which weeps a minute amount of fluid. I removed and reassembled that joint to make sure that I hadn't screwed it up or failed to tighten it enough. The flare on the line is good (symmetrical, correct diameter, not misshapen in any way), and I've tightened the nut with a flare nut wrench and then with a Channellock Nut Buster + leaning my full weight on it. I can't get it any tighter. Still, upon reassembly, it continues to weep ever so slightly (maybe one drop every couple of seconds with engine on and me pumping the brake pedal). What have I done wrong? Bonus question: as fitting this job, the parking brake actuator rod sheared when I tried moving the parking brake adjustment nut. It doesn't look to me as if any of our trusty vendors sell the actuator rod. Anyone got a part number on it, or a line on where it can be found? Best, d. -- 1990 GL |
