Heh.

For me, the simplest mental image is to picture a string cut and fit to the inner circumference, being then strung along outer circumference. It will be too short. Which is kind of fascinating to me since if you cut the belt and measure.... some kind of Pretzel Logic voodoo.

On my engine, since the accessory ribbed belt routing isn't exactly stock, using numbers from Contitech to Gates didn't seem to jibe. But that belt is pretty thin so in hindsight, not as critical or at least not as much difference in measuring inner/outer circumference I guess.

My gut tells me that if there were a standard in the belt industry, outer circumference would be the rule for measure of belt "length".
