I may be going down a path you're not interested in, so if I am tell me.
There is an OBDII device called Ultragauge I ran into on a Jetta MK5 thread. I
bought one and it's pretty slick. On my Jetta it can read about 100 real time
values. I've picked up (read can pick up, heavy foot) about 2.5 mpg in commute
traffic in Mpls, which says a lot. Our lords of road construction have built
about 25 new lane miles in the last 2 decades.
Comes with 4 gauge compilations and 2 or 3 you define if you want them. I took
the screen 1 and changed one of the 5 gauges.
Not cheap or expensive. I'm not a fan of the LCD screen color they picked but
for the price I can live with it. It's blue and I'd rather see something more
like orange. It's been very helpful.
I wish I had something like it for my Westy. I also wish my Westy had an
engine that delivered more than long runs of wire with suspect readings
delivered to the ECU. One of these days I'd like to replace the whole wiring
harness with something modern. Are there any good ones out there?
