What type bolts are using? Regular or the copper locknuts. This is a connection that likes to come loose. From the factor these bolts were long and a series of spring washer were used to allow for the expansion and this type of connection is designed to move slightly when needed. Other vehicles used shoulder bolts and actual springs on these joints. Anyway, if using regular bolts, lubed go for about 14 lb./ft.

Having never found my Bentley after moving - I am a bit handicapped on certain Vanagon things.

I am replacing the three bolts that hold the J-pipe to the cast iron Y-manifold and just need the torque values for those bolts. These were burnt to a crisp and I'm putting in new ones. This is where the metal "donut" gasket goes in the exhaust system.

Anyone?

Thanks,

John
