did you bleed the brakes using the brake pedal? If so, and if the master is old.....

I've read that a master cylinder can fail if one repeatedly pushed the pedal to the floor to bleed the brakes (dirt rubs on the seal(s) and ruins them). IF it's failed, it may have failed on one circuit only. This would leave you with some "pedal".

Likely though, as Tom suggests, it's likely the shoe adjustment. Also, are you certain that the adjuster et al is installed correctly?
