In industry we have machines that use multiple belts and often very large one at that. Air handlers and stuff like that also run 24/7. When we need multiple belts running on a set of pulleys we get "matched sets". Belts are made of cords and layers and molded parts so there is some variation. You are also comparing a used belt to new. Not only is side wear normal, once the belt is tensioned and run for while it will stretch. As it stretches in length it will become narrower. Go stretch a rope or elastic and watch what happens.
