How do you get the slider knobs off.  I don't want to over force them.  I pulling pretty hard.  Do they ultimately slide off if I just pull harder?  Trying to remove the face plate so I scan change out the heater fan switch.  Have to get the knobs off to remove the plate.

The "knobs" themselves, do not come off the slider mechanism.
The slider mechanism separates about 1" from the knob, which
is why using angled, needle nose pliers works well, as you grab
the slider flat shaft behind the knob and pull, separating the
slider flat shaft from where it's anchored.
