that's odd. what is stock, if you are talking about the u-shaped sensor retainer clip ..is one single metal slide-in U shaped clip. Genuine VW replacement ones these days are plastic. is yours metal or plastic ? perhaps someone jammed in two. be careful as the thin plastic the clipengages with can easily break. Actually ...the entire plastic thermostat housing on an 87 Westy can easily warp, almost melt and generally fail. If old , like 20 yrs old ... ....they can be quite ready to just break in various ways. those o-rings ....they don't seal well if pretty old . I'm now on my third attempt after giving up twice. I've tried just about every tool in my toolbox to remove the clip. All my screwdrivers are too big, I tried using a slim nail and a small allen wrench. I cannot see the clip, so I don't know how much room I have to insert the tool. I'm also worried that I will either break or bend the clip or it will fly off never to be seen again. Already the sensor seems very loose but the clip is still on there. Is this a standard clip I could find in a hardware store? This would be so easy if the van was up on a lift but its really difficult from above. >> >> David ('87 Wolfsburg) >> >> >> >> |
