Vanagon transmissions seem to suffer from broken parts and beaten housings and choice of lubricant is not going to fix this. To protect gears and bearings you want a GL-5 or GL-6 lubricant. Some synthetics can offer better protection and most of them are more stable long life fluids. You can also consider going to higher viscosity. Amsoil makes a 75-110 gear oil that is a great compromise for the Vanagon boxes. http://www.amsoil.com/shop/by-product/gear-lube/severe-gear-75w-110/?code=SV TQT-EA If you don't deal with winter weather you can also use 80w-140. I just want to know if its a good or bad idea for my 4 speed. Velma 82 1.9L AAZ td westy |
