Still not having any luck replacing this d*mn thing. I'm now on my third attempt after giving up twice. I've tried just about every tool in my toolbox to remove the clip. All my screwdrivers are too big, I tried using a slim nail and a small allen wrench. I cannot see the clip, so I don't know how much room I have to insert the tool. I'm also worried that I will either break or bend the clip or it will fly off never to be seen again. Already the sensor seems very loose but the clip is still on there. Is this a standard clip I could find in a hardware store? This would be so easy if the van was up on a lift but its really difficult from above. David ('87 Wolfsburg)

The temp sensor and the temp sensor connector should be blue. If you have a new sensor and new o-ring ready just leave the harness connector on the old one while you pull the old sensor out and put in the new sensor right away to reduce coolant loss. Then fiddle with getting the connector off the old one while it is in your hand. If the connector doesn't have the raised metal wire release that gets pushed in to release then you may have to pry the ends of the metal wire piece out to release the connector. Again, doing this while you have it out where you can see it is the way to go. I hope you are not just swapping parts as a shot in the dark. The quality of some new parts is so low that you are much better off leaving a working original part unless you have a good reason to change it. There are still new genuine Bosch versions of the sensors around but a certain other brands may be questionable. Mark
