it's not hard to undo the 4 bolts on the outer end of the engine cross bar and lower the engine a little. It's specifically designed for this, to ease working on the muffler/cat area.

Then it's real easy to slide the muffler, or muffler/cat, out to the right.

I really don't like seeing parts welded together like that. Stock bolts-with-flanges is so much better. Replace what you need to, keep what you don't need to replace.
