Subject: Temp II sensor replacement Part 2 (The disaster!)

Well today I found out about the 2 clips I removed (or thought I removed) from my Temp II sensor. I was not planning to use the van until the correct replacement unit came from the Van Cafe. However, my daughter urgently needed to be somewhere, so I reinstalled the clip on the temp II sensor I had removed. Started the van and looked for leaks. All looked good. During the journey I keptan  eagle eye on coolant temp gauge. About 2 miles into the journey, I saw the coolant warning light flashing. This surprised me because the coolant temp gauge had not even reached half-way. I pulled over as fast as I could (into the entrance to a gated community). Raised the hatch and there was the coolant temp sensor hanging down. Somehow in removing the clip from the Temp II sensor I had also removed the clip from the coolant temp sensor! This was the reason the temp gauge never moved far up the scale. I lost all my coolant and now I have to hope my engine is not irretrievably damaged. If it is, it will be the end of my van - which has been my primary transport for over 15 years. I'll fix the sensors, refill the coolant and see what happens.
