you look , visually, for things that match the symptom. A starter that's an elcheapo brand, a starter that looks like it's been in there decades.. corrosion on any connections in the entire battery-starter-ground cables-iignitions switch circuit.

if it will do it ..employ 'substitue and bypass' strategy .. rig a remote starter button .. if it always starts that way, but occasionally misses or won't work from the key ..consider igntion switch ........or just if the starter trigger terminal is getting a good enough shot of juice from the ign sw.

in some cases I'll install a starter booster relay ..

or even heavy duty redundant starter button circuit. Those I like to do 'full hot' from battery to heavy duty starter button on the dash , to starter, and with fairly fat wires too. . That makes for a 'always hot' starter button ..a possibly safety concern .. That will sure work though, or often does.

it's like when a motorist has a symptom , an intermittant one. They take it a shop. The shop says 'it won't do it for us' ..and they stop right there.

I would always at least identify a few weak spots in the associated circuit, and 'do something' ..increasing the chances that it will be either fixed, or at at least progress on the issue will be made.

"It's just a blockage or leakage of fluids or electrons.'

oh .......btw..if anyone like Bill M. thinks I am just restating what I read in someone else's post ..nope. I never do that. Often I post a reply, and before mine appears, someone else's doesand it may look like that to some people. Let's try to be very careful about making public comments about individuals on the list. Gosip privately behind my back if you like. lol. If that makes you feel better.
