Automatic? It is rare for the seal alone to go bad. Overheating/overfilling and/or the vents on top being clogged with road dirt can cause fluid to forced past seals or even out the dip stick tube. Check for those conditions first. If seal did fail something caused it. Loose or broken engine to trans studs, flex plate, etc. Are common. Torque converter can also have a bad bushing. No transmission work or service before. (am 2nd owner). Drove across the continent with no problems..til now. Transmission began to leak (gush) in Newfoundland. No autohaus recommendations for here. Shop I got it flatbedded to says torque seal leaking a lot and to replace it they need to remove transmission. Once they have it out they will see if torque needs replacing too. My questions are 1) does this seem reasonable? 2) does anyone have any experience with the gowesty transmission oil cooler kit..and should I try to get one And have it installed while the transmission is out? The shop is now in touch with nearest VW dealer about 1000km away to see if they have a seal to send. Any response to my questions greatly appreciated.
