Subject: Luggage Rack underside -- washers and felt pads
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1

A few question for those of you who have removed and replaced the luggage rack.

Yesterday, I removed the luggage rack from my 1991 Westy for the first time. I have owned this van since 1995 and have all of the previous owners maintenance receipts, and do not believe the luggage rack has ever been removed. However, it could have been for some unknown reason by the previous owner.

My questions concern the washers and felt pieces

There was a rubber washer on each roof side bracket (passenger side and driver side) but no washer on the front roof brackets---is that normal or should I add them to the front? My thought is that the lack of washers was more of a fit issue by the original installer.

There are two 2"x2" felt type pads at the back of the rack on the passenger side and driver side. There appears to be glue/felt residue on the inside back of the rack. Have you seen a felt type pad at that location?

There are two small rubber pads on each side at the far back. These are fine.

According to Bentley, there are two rubber washers at each of the 4 back bolts. What I have is a rubber washer, a steel washer, and a nut. Is that normal on later model Westy's?

Thanks for any advice,

Harold
