a part like a stud or a bolt for a specific application , at a FLAPS, is
not quite like a 'normal part' .
say spark plug, oil filter, or water pump.
I wouldn't expect a typical FLAPS to be able to look up an exhaust
stud at all.
However..if they sell Dorman Products ..a well-known line of fasterners
often seen at a FLAPS..
that company supplies M8X 1.25 studs in a few different lengthsI'm
pretty sure.
Here is someone who can look it up for sure ....VW Dealer.
They're not very swift usualy about waterboxer Vanagon parts ..
but those parts are shown in their system, I believe..
and price..
whenever I buy a fastener of any sort from my VW dealer ..the price is
super reasonable .
They need to order them, and that takes a few days.
I always babysit the parts person through the look-up-the part process...
and ....when you develope a relationship over time with one or two parts
people only ..
it gets much easier.
Here are the parts I but for Vanagons at a FLAPS type store ..
oil, anti-frz and ...
ummm....let's see........oh, gasket sealerand products like that.
I don't buy ANY Vanagon part froms a FLAPS ..not even an oil filter.
I get good vanagon parts via a good ForeignCar Parts store or vendor, only.
and good hardware stores have those studs too.
It's only about 25 times easier when you
arebuying Vanagon parts from people who deal in that all day long..
as oppossed to people who deal in parts for say a Chevy Blazer all day
long.
More or less wasting your time to try to get Vanagon parts from such a
store or person.
and ...grrr.......I have always hated that a not-too-smart person was
between me and the parts behind them that were most likely on the shelf
. If I could just get past that dumb person ...
That's happened to me about a million times over the decades. I
knewvery likely what they have ..
say an Bosch alternator voltage regulator ...that fits most Bosch
Alternators ..that most likely they'll have ..
there's this person .....being a firewall............. between me and
the part Ineed that I know in all probability they have.
which is why I never buy vanagon parts except from those that sell them
commonly.
