Is dieseling for you? http://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/pet_pri_gnd_dcus_nus_w.htm

Let's say your fuel consumption drops by 50% optimistic estimate. Let's say you intend to drive your beloved another 100000 miles. Let's say that diesel will cost you 10% more per gallon than gasoline. Let's say your conversion cost is $5000 total. Syncro is easily twice that. Let's say your fuel consumption is18mpgg now.

In the 100000 miles you will travel 100000/18 gallons of gasoline will be purchased. Or 100000/36 gallons of diesel. These are wildly optimistic figures. The reality is that most diesel upgrades get you to 30 mpgd from 18mpgg. Over these 100000/30 gallons of diesel you will spend 10% more per gallon.

The sliderule will tell you how long before you amortise or save the 5000USD you spent to convert properly. And you'll still have a 30 year old car with custom motor installation that YOU will have to maintain.

sticky wicket indeed.

Y'all always wanted to fire up them spreadsheets. Here's the chance.

Pensionerd.
