Consider getting the torque converter modified with a different stall speed to get the near lock up at a lower speed. Too low a speed and too much torque will have it slipping and making a lot of heat.

I'm currently projecting to have about $3500 into the entire project, including re-gearing to a 3.27 R&P. I'm always baffled as to why the focus is solely on fuel mileage and not on torque, drive-ability, simplicity, reduced flammability, etc. If you don't want a diesel, don't buy one. The rest of us will bear this terrible burden for you.
