Send your code to Steve Sandlin and he can cut you a key. Some people have even sent photos of their keys and Steve was able to decode them.

On newer VW's such as your 2005 ROUTAN, the problem is not so much the key but the cluster. The cluster or more corectly, the IMMO needs to be told to recognize the RFID (Radio Frequency ID) in your new key. Think about it like a guest list in your favorite night club. If your name isn't in the list, the bouncer will kick you out even if you managed to initially sneak in. People who convert to TDI's or other IMMO equipped engines have been known to hide the original keys in their Vanagons or have someone disable the IMMO function in their ECU or instrument cluster.
