I saw a syncro near Salton Sea with an inline 4 and I chatted them up briefly. The fellow said he liked the motor just fine, but I didn't get any particulars...sounded nice...

According to some of the other VW forums the 1.8liter head on an ABA block is roughly as powerful and frugal as a standard ABA with cross flow heads...but of course I have no real data to back that up and in fact I didn't say that myself, I'm relaying what I read on the Internet....Who really knows? I shall have to , if I get some extra time to waste, do a search and see if I can come up with any dyno sheets for both those motors... Looking at the Cross Flow ABA intake I have sitting in a box, unused from the ABA block in my van...it doesn't look to me like it would be worth having a bump in my bed.....grin.
