Jim,

I detailed the amount of material to be removed from the VW windage tray in the series of posts on the oil scraper I added to the TDi build. You may recall that I used a boroscope to image the interior of the block/crankshaft area to follow the areation and foaming issues that caused the effective oil pressure to drop as a function of oil level. It turned out that the combination of scraper with the modified windage tray virtually turned off the foaming problem and lowered the dynamic oil temperature by more than 20 degrees as I recall. All the details are in the archives in my long-winded posts. The scraper/tray along with the baffled oil pan are constraining the oil in the TDi engine at the moment. I have the prototype jigs somewhere in unpacked crates from the retirement move. Over the winter, I planned to organize all the pieces, extra 3A engines etc!

Frank

NOW you tell me.... (Not that I've seen any evidence of oil not being returned to the pan in a timely manner.)

Might you have pictures?

TIA,

Jim

I used the windage tray/oil pan gasket, but modified the drainage holes for proper return flow at the 50 degree mounting angle.
