What is the set up? If you are running non-stock + or - fog lights, thumping stereo and lots of juice sucking equipment then maybe. I have an 85 gl 7 passenger vanagon. My 90 amp alternator handles the fogs, stereo, wipers, h4 headlights and the normal stuff fine. Your vanagon in comparison with rabbits and sciroccos of the same year already had the upgrade. As most of these had a 65 amp alt at best.
