  It is very traditional of VW to have a fuse in the engine compartment
for back-up lights , like it was an afterthought, but I don't think that
is true in Vanagons.
In any case..if you see a fuse, check it !

I see ..ask questions on the group before you can even access all parts
of your van, electrically speaking.
