$12K is attractive but at that price, I'd be suspect of the body.

  It's possible the panel was replaced (IIRC some have no seam there)
but whats left of the seam looks like it was bondo'd or fiberglassed
over. If that Westy spent most of its time in Ontario, I would assume
there is (or was?) rust elsewhere.

If engine is a VW of Canada Reman, it's possibly a potential issue.
Was the "new" tranny actually a used unit? As for mileage, 290K km's
is not unusual but that's just my .02 Cnd.      ;)

OTOH, it may be ok. Maybe rust was actually removed and work beyond
that was just less than aesthetically pleasing? And, maybe engine
could last a while or more.
