Exactly, very common occurrence unless the stock hose has been replaced. Hose collapses and the pressure in the bottom end of the engine builds up and will try to get out the easiest way; dipstick then the crank seals are next in line. The OEM hose is not substantial and will collapses after years of use and the high heat in the engine compartment. Replace this hose with a braided, stiff multi-purpose hose from any auto parts supplier.
