Subject: Walmart Batteries
Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1; format=flowed

Was helping my son move from Tuscaloosa to Birmingham - had to buy a new battery in Tuscaloosa. Went to Walmart - got the battery - installed in my '88 GL - and continued the move. Got done with the move - got ready to go from his new place to mine - Engine turned a couple of times - then quit. Apparent dead battery. Pulled the battery, son drove me to the nearest Walmart with a service center. Before attempting to put a new charge on it - they tested the battery. It was dead. It was not going to take a charge. Left with a new replacement battery. Under warranty of course. New battery lasted several years.

Failures right out of the box - so to speak - do happen. In my flying days I bought a King DME abox - Distance Measuring Equipment - used in flight to check ground speed and distance from navigational facilities. King at the time was top of the line in radio nav gear. Paid $5000 for that box. Radio shop installed it - and I went t the airport - picked up the airplane - and departed. The DME worked fine until I got 15 miles out from the airport - suddenly it just quit. Turned around - went back to the radio shop where they pulled it and put it on the test bench. It was DOA. They were never able to even get it to turn on. Put another brand new unit in - and it worked fine for me until I sold the airplane.

Moose nuggets happen!

John
