David - left over grease and grime smears are a major annoyance to me. they indicate a hapless, careless attitude. broken things indicate time to find another mechanic. as for the glove box ; get a pair of the 'tools' that come with after market stereos. they slide in along side the head unit and release locking tabs that retain the unit to the mounting sleeve to the dash. these 'tools' are easy enough to bend and thin enough to work between door and dash to (hopefully) push the lock tongues back (toward lock cylinder) to gain access. then the glove box will fall and spill everything ! seriously , hth mike ________________________________ From: David M <covrambles@YAHOO.COM> To: vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM Sent: Saturday, October 19, 2013 9:58 PM Subject: Glove box door I've used my glove box from time to time without any problem. I have never locked or unlocked the glove box since I've owned the van. After I took my van in for some work, it now refuses to open. I guess the mechanic fiddled with it and broke it. I swear every time I take my van in, it comes back with something either broken or smeared with oil.. I keep my registration and insurance cards in there - now inaccessible. I found a spare key that goes in all the way and turns the lock, but the door wont open no matter what the position of the key. Can anyone help me figure out what has happened and how to fix the lock so I can open the door? Thanks a lot. David (1987 Wolfsburg) |
