bench testing a waterboxer starter . since the front bushing is in the bell housing .. one should not run a wbxr starter without the nose of it being supported in a bell housing.

first thing I do every time is connect a remote starter swicth to the starter.. that bypasses the ignition swicth and all the wiring too it .. making it much easier to tell where the issue is.

Is it possible that the issue is with the starter switch, and not the starter solenoid. One way to test would be to supply momentary + to the solenoid to engage! and then remove the + voltage. This is where a remote starter switch is useful to test. If you pull the starter, you should be able to perform bench top testing of the solenoid and starter motor. > > Stuart > > Sent from my electronic umbilicus > >> On Oct 10, 2013, at 7:16 AM, Eric Ley <eric_ley@HOTMAIL.COM> wrote: >> >> Sounds like the starter solenoid is shorted time for a new starter. >> >> Eric Ley >> Garage Mechanic ELM >> 2001 Demers Franklin, Qc >> >> -------------------------------------------------- >> From: "JRodgers" <jrodgers113@GMAIL.COM> >> Sent: Thursday, October 10, 2013 12:44 AM >> To: <vanagon@GERRY.VANAGON.COM> >> Subject: Re: Runaway starter - 88 GL w/2.1L WBX >> >>> Just spinning the starter really fast! >>> >>> John >>> >>>> On 10/9/2013 9:55 PM, mark drillock wrote: >>>> Is it cranking the engine or just spinning the starter very fast? >>>> >>>> Mark >>>> >>>> JRodgers wrote: >>>>> Tonight as I was about to leave a friends house - I turned the key to >>>>> start the engine.
