Subject:      Headlamps and 9004 sockets

Well after weeks of work and numerous part orders and trips to the hardware store I finally have my headlamps back together all ready to connect to my replacement 9004 socket crimped on to the van wiring.
Then I went to just push in the socket, easy right?..... It wont fit. I guess all 9004 sockets are NOT the same as I was assured. Of course, I should have tested it before I crimped on the wires. The two prongs on the 9004 socket will not reach over the bump on the headlamp socket to hold it in. No way, no how will they reach. So now I am back to square one. Need to find a 9004 socket that will actually fit the VW headlamp connector. Any recommendations? The one I have that wont fit is a 'Calterm' 9004, Made in Taiwan. I thought it was a good one because it is ceramic not plastic.
