Yup, better respect the old road diva and treat her kindly or she will leave you in the smoke.

Occasionally things get hot enough to crisp the wires, like when the mechanic-fool runs em right along the exhaust. This not being the case in your case (sorry) it may be as others have said the OP sensor so trace out the OP sensor from sensor to harness with a buzz-light (ignition off of course) to see what you find. It may be an adventure beyond your wildest. While your at it, (with the ignition off) unplug connectors and re mate them one at a time. This wipe the contact surfaces clean of the accumulated spooge. (rec.motorcycles term) and may allow many more non whiny days of your more and more intimate relationship with the lady in decline.

While your at it check the fuel line connectors and fuel line hoses for any suspect embrittlement or incipient cracks. Replace at once BEFORE warming up the old lady.

Kick the tires and light the fires and git on out there before all the plastici crumbles to dust.
