As part of a plan for making the engine last as long as possible make it a habit to check the warning lights every time you go to start it. This goes for the alternator light and coolant temperature light. During maintenance such as oil changes disconnect the coolant level probe and make sure the low coolant warning works also. In the event of a coolant loss or belt failure the gauge no longer works normally since coolant is no longer flowing. At this point the gauge will only rise in proportion to the cost of repairs after the steam rises and the hoses start failing etc.

On my 85 with 1.9 manual trans I ran across this crispy tan/Brown wire. It's attached to a green wire from the black junction box on the left hand side of the engine compartment.

I am searching for its endpoint but cannot seem to find it. Cruise control was ripped out of here (not by me) and I am wondering if it's just a leftover, albeit a sloppy leftover. It's been exposed to the elements long enough to turn green, but I am bothered by its crispness.

Any ideas? I don't have any major running issues, but I'm fairly tolerant of a close to 30 year old vehicle and don't argue with her much.
