I'd say that is normal, not great but normal. what is your charging voltage at your positive alternator post ? ( should be 13.8 minimum , or a bit more. ...and I find that to be fairly common on Vanagons ..which is not that high compared to newer cars ) . I asked a parts man about charging requirements for a red top Optima starting battery today. He said 14.1 to 14.4 volts , must have. Many vanagons are not charging at that many volts. What is your charging voltage at your battery ? Check it at various places.. you'll find voltage drop the further you get from the battery ..and the longer the wires to the device. Scott
